Code Monkey FAQ

I am sure you have questions. I have tried to anticipate some of them and give you no-nonsense answers. Look through the list below and see if I address your particular question. If not, feel free to go to the Contacts page and drop me a line with your question.

Why would I use Code Monkey?

Using a consultant makes sense under a variety of circumstances:

  • You have a crunch and don't have the people to get the job done
  • You need expertise you lack in-house and can't afford to develop
  • You don't want to have an employee (or can't add to your headcount)

But why Code Monkey? Using Code Monkey offers a number of benefits. I have a wide variety of talents, both within and outside the software realm. For example:

  • I am a good communicator
  • I am a good team player
  • I am able to quickly understand new systems
  • I have done system architecture as well as programming
  • I am skilled in wide variety of languages, platforms, and development tools and methodologies
  • I work fast - dollar for dollar, you will often get what you want more cheaply
  • I have a broad set of experiences to bring to the table and I may have solved a problem like yours before

How does Code Monkey add value?

Code Monkey adds value in a number of ways. I believe in an hour of work for an hour of pay (as any good consultant should). This means you don't spend money on me talking about last night's game or how my kids are doing. I work fast. I often think about a problem "off-line", so you often get the benefit of the solution without my charging the time I spent thinking about it in the shower. I have a lot of experience, so I often know the solution as soon as I hear the problem. In the end, your bottom line matters to me. I want you to be satisfied and to get your money's worth (or a little more).

What are your rates?

I typically charge $100/hr. However, I have also done work for sweat equity, and have offered lower rates in B2B situations. Rates are not the primary drive for me. Working conditions, the social impact of the project, how interesting the project is, and how well suited I am to doing the project all play a factor. I am willing to negotiate if you can show me "where my bread is buttered" (that is, if a lower rate benefits both of us).

Is Code Monkey the best answer for me?

Maybe, maybe not. I offer a lot to a project, but I may be overkill. How do you decide? Contact me. I am always willing to have a frank conversation about your needs. My goal is for both of us to be happy with what we do. If we decide that I am not the right solution for you, I may be able to suggest someone who will be a better fit. Or I may be able to point you toward finding a better answer to the problem such as a simple piece of Open Source software, or a hosting solution that offers a web page building tool that will suit what you need. Let's talk.
